Ecology

The Zakynthians display a particular sensitivity toward the environment ad have preserved large areas of the island unchanged, so as to protect and preserve the marine fauna. The Caretta-Caretta, the Mediterranean loggerhead turtle that for millions of years now has used the south coasts of Zakynthos as nesting ground to lay its eggs, has found a safe refuge in its protected sandy beaches. The same goes for another rare species, the Monachus-Monachus the Mediterranean monk seal, which is found on the southwest beaches of Zakynthos.

The Greek government has created a National Marine Park at the gulf of Laganas, with the express purpose of protecting this rare species of sea turtle. Today's villages and tourism facilities, built in the traditional colors of the island, blend in harmoniously with its nature. Every visitor thus enjoy modern comforts and services in a natural and civilized environment. Zakynthos is an island that you will fall in love with as soon as you see it.
