Kalamaki village is located 7 km to the south-west of Zakynthos town and 2km from the airport. Kalamaki's long beach is an extension of Laganas golden sandy coastline and is superb with crystal clear blue water. The sandy beach is also a reproduction place for the famous Caretta-Caretta sea turtle. It is a seaside resort and a nice choice for quiet and relaxing holidays. There are many olive groves, farms and a pine coastal forest.

Transportation
There is a frequent bus service to the town of Zakynthos. You may also rent a car, a jeep, a bike or a bicycle. Also, there is a taxi station on the main road.
Restaurants
You will find many excellent restaurants and taverns in Kalamaki, offering menus from traditional Greek cuisine, but also from English, Chinese, and Italian ones as well. Even if you like fast-food, you won´t miss it! Furthermore, some of the restaurants and the taverns offer live Greek music shows with traditional singing and dancing.
Beaches
Kalamaki forms a natural extension of Laganas beach, with perfect, golden sand and clean waters. You may rent umbrellas and sun beds on the beach, and there are taverns and restaurants close to the beach. Most of the people prefer the middle of the beach, but if you walk a little more, you may discover greater, quieter spots. There are also several parking spaces adjacent to the beach Remember, the sandy beach at Kalamaki is also the reproduction place of the famous Caretta-Caretta sea turtle. The reproduction season coincides with the vacation season. During July and August, the female turtles come ashore to bury their eggs about 50 cm in the sand. The warm sand causes the eggs to hatch and the baby turtles emerge 8 weeks later, immediately heading to the moonlit sea. So, if you want to spend some time at the beach, you must be careful not to disturb the nests with your umbrella or by digging, and you must not touch the emerging baby turtles. Power water sports are not allowed in the area and no one must remain on or enter the beach after sunset.
There are boats with glass bottoms, from which you can watch the turtles in their natural environment. There are also small boats that take tourists to remote beaches. Take the opportunity to visit Marathonissi island, where the beach is also a reproduction area of the Caretta-Caretta turtle.
Shopping
You will find a very comprehensive market in Kalamaki. There are money exchange agencies, bakeries, gift-shops, jewelry and leatherwear shops. The gift shops offer perfect gifts to take back home, like jewelry, leatherwear, handbags, miniature Caretta- Caretta turtles, pottery and sweets made from honey and almonds (nougat that called Mandolato) and Pasteli.
Nightlife
Nightlife in Kalamaki is relatively quiet, compared to Laganas. Although there is a wide variety of restaurants, cafes and bars to select the type of entertainment you like.
